Description
In a contract from February 1804 between Countess Vorontsova and Thorvaldsen, Thorvaldsen undertakes to make a group depicting Amor and Psyche (A27) and two sculptures depicting Bachus (A2) and Ganymede (A41).
Bacchys (or Dionysus) is the god of the grape-harvest, winemaking and wine, of fertility, ritual madness, religious ecstasy, and theatre in ancient Greek religion and myth.
