Description
Rhombihexacron was designed for the Sinterit Design Competition.
Entering a collection of designs for the Math Art theme, my goal is to create a series of as many geometic forms and their respective wireframe structures as I can. Exposing the wireframe structure that make up each geometric form truly shows how complex and intricate these models can be and would utilize the full capabilities of the laser sintering process of 3D printing because of how high of an accuracy would be needed and the process not needing support material.
Creating using Rhino with the plugin RhinoPolyhedra and then edges were generated using Meshmixer.

Printing the solid Rhombihexacron wasn't complicated at all. I used Simplify 3D and printed it at 0.2mm layer height using extrudr NX2 anthrazit. You will have to take care to position your support carefully. I used 2 perimeters. The structure version is a real challenge though! I would clearly call it a torture test ;-) The first one I tried to print with FDM using Fillamentum at 0.15mm layer height. It didn't come out well as you can see on my picture. So I tried using a resin printer (Dazz3D) instead. This time it came out far better. Of course I had to resize it a bit in order to fit it on the print bed. Removing the support was quite a challenge.
