I get requests for Dinos non-stop... so I have to sprinkle them in when I can. This one took a bit more noodling due to the long posture, extended snout and tall sail.
The Spinosaurus was fascinating to research. Lots of unanswered questions and speculation about whether it was a land or water dino., and how it caught it's prey. I thought adding the fish and an opening mouth gave it a ton of character.
I hope you enjoy printing this as much as I enjoyed designing it. Due to the way it stands and the extremely articulated spine and sail, It has more possibilities for poses.
I added the eye version and no eye version as usual, with the pop-on head piece. This character prints amazing in gradient PLA. But I have provided a two color 3mf for those that want another option.
Print tips and Info:
- *** While removing it from the plate, please be careful not to push or pull it from the spines, they may break off. ***
- To put the head on, simply lay the dino on its belly, set the head in place and press down firmly. You will hear it snap on. (I created little notches that help guide the head in place.) Once in place, it's best not to try and remove it.
- Go BIG or go home! the bigger the better for this model, but If you are printing small, I suggest going with the straight version or you might get a little lockup in the tail. I don't suggest going under 65%.
As usual. - Make sure you have good adhesion. I always use a glue stick
- STL and 3MF files are included. * If you use the 3mf file, please remember that it is a painted project file for your convenience. You must check your material/printer/settings to make sure it works correctly for your printing project.
- I print with 3 walls, 15% infill/gyroid, .12 or .16 layer height for quality.
- Gradient PLA works well with this model: I have a comprehensive list of Filament I use here: Amazon List *As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- 1st photo printed STLs 130%: ZIRO Multicolor Woodgrain
- 2nd photo 100%: Dino in Ziro Fast Change Meadow Mirage, Stand and fish in Ziro Fast Change Tropical
- 4th Photo stl is hand stained 130%: I used Overture Matte Light Brown, stain with Java Gel and spray with Matte Polyurethane.
