Description
This sculpture is to be linked with an episode from Ovid's Metamorphoses. Because of her mother Cassiopeia's pretence to be more beautiful Nereids, Andromedea must be given to a marine monster in punishment for this outrage. Perseus then rescues her and kills the monster. Here, he frees her from her chains and is about to marry her.
