Description
This is a fossil tooth of Carcharocles megalodon, or megalodon, the largest shark ever. It could reach 18 metres in length, and weigh 50 tonnes or more. This specimen (BIRUG 14906) is from the Miocene of South Carolina, and is on display in the Evolution of Life gallery of the Lapworth Museum of Geology.
