A servant of the Lykteholder, the Beinvaettr is tied to its master’s will, though it holds its own place in the folklore of residents in Nordheim. Those who reside in its forests give out offerings to the creature in exchange for peace and penance: usually in the form of corpses, be they livestock, or friends and family. Either way, each offering given is taken, and the Beinvaettr bolsters its form with the bones of the deceased. Should a villager fail to give an offering, the creature will take it by force, regardless of their pleas and screams.
A creation of the Lykteholder, and its sole servant. The Beinvættr has earned its own reputation in Nordheim however, along with hosts of legends and sagas dedicated to its eminence. Few correlate the two entities together, save by chance in writings. For any who have seen both creatures in tandem will not have lived to tell the tale. Instead, the Beinvættr is seen as a malevolent being of the woods that mostly keeps to itself, save for a yearly request of sacrifice in the form of bones. Whether that be the bones of an animal or person, or even an entire corpse with the skeleton still intact, the wight will take its sacrifice, bolstering its form.
The Beinvættr is the stalker in the woods, and the laborer of the Lykteholder. Whilst it prowls the eaves of the alpine forests of Nordheim to its own design, it will answer to the back and call of its master carried by the whispers of the wind. When it does, the bony creature will bound through the woods to its aid, toppling over trees and dismembering any creatures or people unfortunate enough to be in its path. For though the creature is the servant of the Lykteholder, it is also its guardian.
