The old giant lived as a refugee most of his life, so when he got himself a piece of land he shared it with those who came to him looking for mercy. By the time the land turned into a town, it was attacked by an army that wanted to reclaim it when they discovered its potential.
With the open wound of the memories from the wars they escaped, the inhabitants defended their home. The giant joined the battle and he protected a group from an explosion and, to everyone's horror, all that was left of him was his burning hand.
Possessed by the anger of their loss, the villagers emerged victorious from the battle, and when they tried to move the hand of his beloved giant a curious magic portal was activated between his fingers. Some brave men crossed it and on the other side they found a fantastic land, which was for them the last gift of the giant.
