Born and raised among the fields and bushland of the Granite Belt, Kimberley “Possum” Harris was one of two children to the owner of a local mechanic shop in Warwick. With little else to do out there, she and her brother Neil were brought in to help around the shop from a young age after she finished school, earning her pocket money there as a wrench monkey, or wrench possum as her father called her. Though Warwick was a dusty town, Kim’s father made her family a good living, servicing the Autotrucks bound from Toowoomba to the Chrome Coast or crossing over the Great Dividing Range elsewhere. It was in these days that she suffered a catastrophic injury in her dad’s shop when she was only eight, losing her left arm and leg in the process.
She was fortunate her father was well-off, able to pay for a child-sized cybernetic arm, though unfortunately the gear was an unbearable ongoing cost, needing to be resized and refitted almost every year. With public healthcare being a thing of distant memory, it bankrupted the single father, who was ridden with guilt of his daughter’s maiming, and took to the drink to soothe his woes. His business stood on its last legs when his little possum decided to quit school at thirteen, and take it over alongside her brother. The two did everything they could to keep it afloat, though many of the larger logistics corps understandably pulled their contracts when they learnt teenagers were now servicing their machines.
What Possum didn’t expect to discover while running her father’s shop was the rather shady business dealings he had involved himself in, smuggling weapons and drugs through many of the trucks he serviced, a tradition she reluctantly had to continue with. It wouldn’t take long before this caught up with her family: mobs from the Red Belly Biker Gang had caught wind of it being in their turf, and after trying to shake the young girl down for extortion money, her father intervened. Though it was the last thing he ever did, with a hole blown through him the size of a fist soon after. Possum wept tears mixed of grief and anger, vowing revenge on the gang. At sixteen she left the safety of Warwick, tracking the bikers to the Chrome Coast.
Though she had never been in the city of glitter and neon before, she made a home for herself in a dusty old apartment in Bundall and rented a spot in a mechanic’s garage there as she slowly began amassing intel on her enemies, and weapons to take them down with. Fortune would favour her, as the bartender at her local watering hole: The Link, was a well connected proxy in the Coast’s underground. She was now connected to a network of arms dealers, explosives experts and mercenaries. Once she had the coins, she was going to use all of them to see every last Red Belly face down in a pool of blood.
