Tales of the giant three-clawed crabs of the far isles have sifted through chatter in watering holes for centuries, though most chalked it up to active imaginations or too many swigs of rum. Or both. Though Snippy and his kin will prove to the crew of the Gilded Seahorse that the tales were more grounded than they might have thought, and the razor claws can easily bisect a man unfortunate enough to be in snipping range.
Sailors who have seen a Bladeclaw Crab and lived to tell it were often ridiculed for their stories: a three clawed crab touched by Quorenderi, with a third eye to boot. It was stories usually told by half-cut old-timers whose mind had been wrinkled by the evershining sun. None ever took them seriously, but most other drunken codgers would humour them just for the thrill of their rambling tales.Though many who see a Bladeclaw Crab in the flesh for the first time pinch themselves at the sight, realising the years of mockery were in vain, for the tall tale proved true, as it often does.
Snippy is the “King Crab” of the Bladeclaws that call the islands around the Damned Galleon their home, and like a king he demands tribute. Other crabs have been observed to bring Snippy offerings in the form of shiny objects salvaged from the seafloor, and the crab thus has a strange hoard of treasure from these years of royalty. Any who try take it from him would find themselves short of an arm rather quickly. The more learned sailors who have stumbled upon them believe that these beasts are linked to one another, through telepathic means, allowing them to communicate in ways more advanced than ordinary folk could understand. It seems they are able to manoeuvre and respond to stimulus as a group even without the immediate presence of their kin.
