Inception

MagiCrate began with hopes of being a catch-all for tabletop gaming, especially TTRPGs. While in concept that sounds like a great idea, you can imagine the difficulty and challenge that presents itself when trying to include everything. After many ideas and iterations, from a basic cardboard box, to several basic dice towers, we finally landed on the idea that could encompass the usability and flexibility that would cater to everybody's unique situations. A modular system.

Overall, the idea of a GM kit with ever-changing capabilities was so enticing to us that there was no way that we weren't going to try it out. What this meant for us, is that every. single. aspect. of the GM Kit had to be designed with specific parameters to allow the interchangeability of tools and modules. Truthfully, that was where most of the design process went: testing parameters, keeping it simple, reducing frustrations, and creating an overall exceptional experience for users.

The Box

I could sit here forever explaining to you all of the details that went into MagiCrate, but really, we have pretty pictures we could show off instead. What I will say, though, is that I've been using this box to run my D&D sessions ever since the prototype was printed - and it has been a gamechanger. As a whole, this box has simplified my GMing life and has completely improved my experience, organizing minis and notes, storing my pencils and dice, and smoothing gameplay overall. On top of that, I can also interchange the modules to fit whatever needs I that have. More mini storage? Easy. More dice boxes? Say less. MagiCrate works with anyone's preferences and needs.

We've had so many great ideas from the community for things to add, such as hexagonal combat grids, phone holders, and ways to even further compact the box. Through and through, our time engaging with the community to bring this to life has been such a great adventure!
