1Game, 15 artists: Part 1 - The Concept

Yeah, like most people, I had some ideas in my head that I thought would make a good KickStarter. But, like most people, I was so busy just doing the things that I do, that I didn’t really have time to devote to it.

And then, I watched as bigger and bigger players came into our little 3d printing world. Good for of us consumers, not so good for some of the smaller artists. But reality is what it is, more money being spent draws bigger fish to feed.

I wanted to find a way to work with the big guys in the industry, but also to shed some light on some of our smaller artists who deserve our love and support. And I wanted to work cooperatively, not competitively, with other successful KS creators like Arcane Minis (Skies of Sordane), Graven Guild (Hexton Hills), Artisan Guild (Amazons!), TitanForge (Bloodfields) and Danny Herrero (Lost Adventures and Lost Dragons) So I decided to finally pursue my dream of making a game - I mean, I’d been designing games my whole life with no real outlet or way of realizing them.

I took one of my concepts for a really fast, really fun game that will have you trash talking your friends (partner, kids, etc et) instantly. I also really wanted to make the “game board” itself fully 3d printable because I just thought it would be really cool to have that, because why be stuck just playing on a table?

I knew for the game boards I had to have The Dragon’s Rest make them, Ian is an artist who operates like an engineer, all his stuff is just really well designed in terms of how it all “works”. Plus, he sculpts some of the most beautiful terrain available.

For my primary sculptor I tapped a guy who was not really from “our world” (I don’t mean not from Earth), but a toy sculptor for a major industry player. I knew he had the skillset to make some of the best miniature figures we’ve ever seen. His name is Chris Tackett, and when you see what he’s done, I can safely say you will agree with me that his skills are on another level.

Then it was off to find as any small artists that I could convince to make time (everyone’s so busy with Patreon these days) to share their art, and hopefully provide an arena (no pun intended, maybe) where they could display their talents and maybe pick up a few patrons or commission jobs on the way.

I also wanted to promote the painters who help all these KS creators bring their vision to life, and who teach us how to paint better minis. In short I wanted my KS to be all about the artists, and our amazing 3d printing community.
