Hello!

Hi, my name is Tomasz! If you have found your way here, I am very pleased. I'll be even more pleased, if you'll spend a few minutes to read some information about my work and a bit about me. So let's get started.

Where did I come from?

Paper models

My adventure with modeling began over 30 years ago. That's right. As a small kid I started to assemble paper models - ships, planes, as well as models created by myself. I spent long evenings bent over a desk, holding a scalpel in one hand and a ruler in the other, using them like a novice surgeon.

3D CAD

Over time, my interest in model assembly evolved into CAD design. In technical school I expanded my skills in this area. To this day, I am involved in design, currently in the automotive industry.

The year 2009 was the year that I first started using 3D printers. I got so into the subject that after my first contact with these devices, I wanted to have my own. Initially, however, I had to settle for 3D printing services from external companies, and it wasn't until 2014 that I became the owner of my own printer from Zortrax. It opened the door for me to further develop my passion. The ability to design and create in the comfort of my home seemed so amazing that I began to pursue upgrading my 3D park. This is how, over time, a resin printer appeared in it, designed for more precise projects.

Commissioned design

Until early 2021, almost all of the projects I did were commissioned. I was approached by individuals as well as companies. Always with specific guidelines, where the design had to be done in accordance with the requirements of production, ergonomics, ease and profitability of production. However, somewhere inside of me there has always been a desire to create and implement my own ideas. Without all the restrictions that are characteristic for commercial projects.

Steampunk inspirations

While browsing pinterest with pictures of old production machines I thought, why not design something similar. With movable elements but also practical and something you can print yourself. I came up with lamps. Digging deeper into the topic and looking for inspiration I found myself in this amazing world of Steampunk. There are no limitations as in commercial projects - that is to say, they should be cheap, ergonomic and simple. I found it on the contrary that, the more and more complicated - the better. No restrictions in creating, pure pleasure of creation. After about 6 weeks of intensive designing with many mistakes, the first steampunk desk lamp project was born.

Printing limitations

I quickly saw the limitations of using 3D printers. First of all, the materials that are available for FDM printers don't have cool colors or create textures on the surface. Steampunk is all about machines, metal objects, rusted and patinated. I started looking for paints that could be used to paint these items in a way that would blend in with the style.

It turned out that it is not that simple. There are many products of this type on the market, unfortunately they are either expensive or do not give a satisfactory effect. Finally, after several months I managed to find something that meets my expectations. Thanks to that I can now focus on my projects. A lot of them are still unfinished due to lack of time or satisfaction with the result.

Future plans?

I have several more lamps planned. They are currently being finished. They are in the style of a desk lamp. I have high hopes for them and would like to put them up on Kickstarter. One lamp will be mounted to the wall and another, much larger one will be installed to the ceiling.
