In our efforts to liberate the platform, remaining transparent and supporting creatives working in 3D design, we are implementing Creative Commons licences for all objects shared on MyMiniFactory. CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 will be the default license.

It might seem we have taken our time in rolling out the appropriate licenses, but in order to support designers working with 3D printing we have had to undertake extensive research into whether Creative Commons was ideal for protecting our users. The resulting licenses needed to be as clear as possible for both people sharing their designs and those enjoying them!

We support freedom of usage

We love the diversity of 3D printing’s use cases. In manually curating every object we love being surprised by new original usage of a 3D design and want to continue in encouraging this creativity.

We hope that widening the range of license will accommodate the always increasing use cases of 3D Printing. Licenses shouldn't limit your creativity!

We respect and want to reward designers

Designers and content creators should be respected and rewarded for their work. Whether it's simply to credit their work properly or monetization. We want to encourage you to keep creating!

Finding the right balance

In order to let our community grow and thrive in harmony, we think that the licenses should be in the right place between respecting the designer’s rights, yet still encouraging open sharing, as per 3D printing’s original philosophies.

Clarity and Transparency

We also think that clarity is the most important aspect of a license. So that both the content creator and consumer can understand what to expect and how they can distribute it.

This is what initially led us to write the license with vocabulary more tailored to 3D Printing rather than using the Creative Commons licenses.

Why Creative Commons?

Creative Commons was created to provide creators licenses are well known and widely used on most open platforms. With them, users can easily recognize what they can do with the license.

They define precisely what one can do with your content which will help us fight license infringements in the future.

We will keep working on making your rights respected and fight infringements.

What does this mean to Premium Content?

The license for Premium Content will remain the same Non Commercial Digital Store License and is not affected by the migration of other objects to the Creative Commons License.

What does this mean to Exclusive Objects?

The license of all exclusive objects will remain the same and is not affected by the migration of other objects to the Creative Commons License.

How do we proceed?

From today, all newly uploaded objects will have the choice between any Creative Commons Licenses, the MyMiniFactory Exclusive licenses and the license for premium content.

You will be able to choose the Creative Commons license depending on how you want your object to be shared:

The new default will be the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license and corresponds to the one we currently have.

All exclusive licenses will remain on the MyMiniFactory Exclusivity License.

Until the 30th of June old objects will still have the old license as we want to let you pick the license you think fits the best.

On June 30th, we will automatically migrate all the free non-exclusive licenses to their equivalent Creative Commons license according to this correspondence:
